The name of the Prophet — peace and blessings be upon him — is Mohammad or Ahmad, two blessed names that resonate in the heavens and on the earth.
Whoever truly loves the Prophet — peace and blessings be upon him — and manifests this love by giving the name Mohammad to his son will benefit from the Prophet’s intercession on the Day of Judgment. Indeed, it is reported that Allah has sworn never to punish the one who bears the name Mohammad or Ahmad.
This is why the Prophet — peace and blessings be upon him — said:
“There is no harm if one of you has in his household one Mohammad, two Mohammads, or even three Mohammads…”
Thus, it is not blameworthy to give several children in the same family the name Mohammad, for each bearer of this name is honored by carrying the appellation that recalls the Beloved of Allah.
An Edifying Story
It is narrated that a man from among the Children of Israel lived for more than eighty years without doing any good in his life. Yet, whenever he opened the sacred Book of the Torah and came across the name Mohammad, he would place a gentle kiss on it, full of love and respect.
When he died, his people rejected him and refused to perform the funeral prayer for him, because of his evil deeds. But then, the angel Gabriel — peace be upon him — descended to a prophet of that time and said:
“Go and perform the funeral prayer for the saint of Allah, the Most High.”
The prophet, surprised, asked:
“How can this evil and unbelieving man be considered a saint of Allah?”
Gabriel replied:
“Each time he saw the name Mohammad in the Torah, he placed a kiss of respect upon it. Mohammad is the friend of Allah, and whoever honors his name, Allah honors him.”
Thus, even a simple gesture of love towards the name Mohammad can become a light and a cause of Divine mercy.
